Thekkady is a very beautiful tourist spot within dense forest. But this place is well connected and it is easy to access. The department of tourism and the forest department operate separate facilities for the tourists. This place is located in Idukki district and is near the Kumily town. It is part of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for its evergreen forests and Savanna Grasslands and spreads across 777 square kilometers. The prime attraction is boating through the lake which is part of the Mullaperiyar reservoir. The boating makes the toursts amazed by the proximity of wild animals and rare birds and other wildlife.

Aranya Nivas is a very famous hotel run by the KTDC and is inside the forest and it offers exciting stay.
